Swine Flu - Hyderabad

We've been hearing a lot about Swine Flu. But it seems as though the true scale of the 'pandemic' has missed us. To know what I'm talking about, check this map here. It gives the number of cases by country. Just to give you an idea:

- The number of confirmed cases globally stands at 46664
- 20522 of those are in the United States alone
- There are 34 confirmed cases in India. 10 of those are in Hyderabad. The highest in the country.

Please go through these prevention steps as I believe those of us working in offices, where international visitors are common, should know this. Be careful of those touristy places where lots of foreigners are present.

Live In Relationships

First, I'd like to make my stance clear. I don't think live-in relationships are OK. I have my reasons, which I'll mention but won't justify.

- It is against my values

- It is irresponsible

- It erodes basic societal structure. The basic family unit is what gives society it's functioning structure

- It has huge potential for abuse

- It is mostly to the advantage of the male partner

Why am I even talking about this?

I just read this news item about how some girl in a live-in relationship committed suicide. Why? Because the family she was living with were driving her nuts for... get this.. Dowry! 

You can't get more Indian than this.. eh? We managed to mix an age old societal bane such as dowry, with a new age bane, that is live-ins. At the end of the day, it's all about money, honey!

I think the women folk out there should realize that this 'man's world' has set them up. Don't agree to live-ins. Don't agree to dowry. If you love a guy.. marry him so that you have protection under law. Don't let yourself be used.

You can save yourselves, and others who love you, a lot of angst

I know election season

is a time of ridiculous promises, but this just takes the cake.

Is it OK to say that we will 'send our army,' which is just saying we will invade another sovereign nation, to give an ethnic group there a seperate homeland?

If yes, then what Pakistan has been doing all these years is equally fine. 

Where's the EC on this?
